I chose to compare my writing style to the styles of Sierra and Sonney.
First, I chose Sierra becuz my writing style is different from hers. This is not a bad thing, we all do things differently. While I would tend to create an outline first, Sierra finds it better for her to get started on the intro and let her thoughts lead her. I also write a first draft and make tons of changes before creating a final draft, whereas she edits her work as she is writing. She also does most of her revising while she is writing.
I chose Sonney because thier process is alot like my process. They pick a topic, list their points for the topic, and then list the subpoints. They seemed to use the same outline that I use as well.
Both of these examples reflect the variations in the process of writing. Though we may not all have the same writing process, we all want the very best out of what we write. There a several like Sierra, who like to get started and let the ideas flow as they are writing, while others like Sonney and I like to pick a topic and create an outline first.

Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI could not agree with you more. You are right on when it comes to the process of writing. Everyone has their own unique way of expressing their thoughts on paper, I may not do mine like you do yours, but we both can come up with a great work. We think different, we look different, we are different ages, but we can all be proficient at writing in our own way.
Amanda, good comparisons! What can you take from your peers that you might apply to your own process? Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteAmanda from reading your blogs I feel you are very proficient in a lot of ways. I see things differently in each person's blogs and I try to utilize or think how I might use them in my writings. In yours for example..an outline. I don't know how you all get such pretty backgrounds and script but they're unique
ReplyDeleteAmanda, thanks for the mention of my writing process and our similarities. In my writing analysis I too realized that many of us have differing processes, but I also realized trying some of their processes and techniques out have helped to improve on my writing style. An example of this is the umbrella style instead of the outline we are accustomed to. Katie uses this technique and I have found it works really well and is easier to manipulate than my customary outline. I still after completing my umbrella of ideas revise it into my outline just for ease of my own writing style. Another point she mentions is the simplifying of the brainstorming by breaking it down into easy simple questions that help you get more information to use in support of your topic.
